The
region is composed of six provinces - Camarines
Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes,
and Masbate. And seven cities namely; Naga, Iriga,
Legaspi, Tabaco, Ligao, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Mayon
Volcano, with it's near perfect cone is found in
Albay and is about 12 hours by bus from Manila.
One of the more popular festivals, Peñafrancia,
is held every September in Naga City. |

Northern
Samar is about 733 kms by land from Manila. Travel
time is about 14 to 16 hours by bus passing through
Matnog, Sorsogon, and crossing the famous San Bernardino
strait via ferry boat to Salvacion, San isidro or
to DapDap and Looc, Allen. Aircon and non-aircon
buses from Catarman, the capital town, are available. |

Eastern
Samar, a rough, hilly province, is the first area
sighted by the explorer Magellan on March 16, 1521.
The spaniards anchored at the tiny island of Homonhon
and called the islands, Zamal. Tourist attraction
includes islands, caves, beaches, and diverse historical
and natural attractions. Guiguan has several offshore
islands with fine clear beaches and rich marine
life. |

Places
of interest in Leyte include the Price Mansion (now
Redoma Residence), which used to be Genereal Mac
Arthur's headquarters; the Gen. Douglas Mac Arthur
landing Memorial in Red Beach, Palo; Lake Danao
National Park; and the San Juanico Bridge, the longest
bridge in the country connecting Leyte and Samar.
The Leyte landing anniversary every October 20,
is attended by World War II veterans, government
officials and dignitaries from the diplomatic community, |

The
"Queen city of the South" is 600 kms away
from Manila. Cebu is famous for dried mangoes, guitars,
scuba diving and the annual Sinulog Festival. Nearby
Mactan Island has some of the best resorts in the
country. tourist attraction includes Magellan Marker,
Basilica Minore de Santo Niño, and Fort San
Pedro. |

Kalibo,
provincial capital of Aklan, is famous for it's
Ati-atihan Festival held every third week of January.
Enjoy the beaches of Buswang, Agfa, and Floripon
Point. just a short boat ride off the tip of Caticlan
is the world-renowned Boracay Island. Visit the
cascading waterfalls of Jawili, trek up Manduyog
Hill in Banga, or venture into the caves of Tulingon
or Basin. |

Travel
through the quaint towns of Iloilo, with their centuries-old
churches , period houses, hand-embroidered and hand-loomed
fabrics and peasful windswept beaches. The province
takes pride in being the "Food basket and Rice
Granary of Western Visayas". It also boasts
one of the richest fishing grounds in the country.
Iloilo is also known for it's Dinagyang Festival,
the Paraw-Regatta, and the feast of our Lady of
Candles. |

Cagayan
de Oro, 785 kms south of Manila, is the starting
point for trips to Camiguin, Bukidnon and Surigao.
Pineapples from enormous plantations inland are
brought to Cagayan de Oro for canning. Places of
interest includes the Xavier Museum de Oro along
Corales Avenue, Makahambus Cave, Camp Philips Plantation
and Cogon Market. |

Davao
is the gateway to Mount Apo, at 2954 meters, the
highest mountain in the Philippines and a magnet
for trekkers and climbers. World-class beaches are
found in many islands just off the Davao City coast.
The biggest and most popular is Samal Island. Places
of interest include Dabaw Museum, the Philippine
Eagle Foundation, the Taoist Temple, the Lon Wa
Temple, Puentespina Orchid Gardens, Aldevinco Shopping
Center, and the Shrine of the Holy Infant of Jesus
of Prague. |

Our Lady Of Peņafrancia
- 3rd week of the month
The feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia is celebrated
on the third Saturday of September in Naga City,
Bicol. The feast day is preceded by a novena, nine
days of prayer, in honor of the Virgin. On the first
day, the image of the Virgin, a copy of the Madonna
in Peñafrancia, Spain, is brought from its
shrine to the Naga Cathedral where the novena is
held. On the last day, the image is returned to
her shrine following the Naga River route. The colorful
evening procession is lit by thousands of candles
from devotees in boats escorting the image. When
the barge reaches its destination, the devotees
shout "Viva la Virgen" (Long live the
Virgin!) and the image is brought back in a procession
to the cathedral.

Masskara
Festival - 2nd week of the month
Originally designed to depict the hardships of the
people of Negros, the Masskara Festival has become
the biggest party in Bacalod, the capital city of
the country's sugar-producing province of Negros.
The Masskara Festival comes from the word masskara
meaning 'mask' and 'many faces'. Throughout the
week, people from all over the Visayas, flock to
Bacolod city. They join Negrenses in the non-stop
round of festivities. Even if you don't feel like
dancing and singing, the pig catching and pole climbing
competitions are musts. Some are also trying their
luck and testing their skills in mask-making contests,
disco king and queen competitions, coconut-milk
drinking to name a few. |

Lanzones
Festival - 3nd week of the month
The Lanzones fruit is a major source of the Camiguin
Islands' livelihood and it is for the annual harvest
that they celebrate the thanksgiving day. Houses,
carriages, street poles and even people are decorated
with lanzones and lanzones leaves. townsfolk dance
in joy abandon in commemoration of the legend that
a beautiful, unknown maiden took from the fruit
the bitter flavor to leave only its luscious, sweet
taste. |

Pintaflores Festival - 1st week of
the month
Pintaflores is coined from the words Pintados, the
concept behind the Nabingkalan Tattoo Festival, and
"flores", the Spanish word for flowers,
that dominated the theme of the Dances of Flowers.
The emerging festival of San Carlos City, highlighs
the traditional fiesta celebration in honor of its
patron Saint San Carlos Borromeo on the first week
of November. It features street dancing by "tribes"
dressed in colorful ethnic-inspired costumes, their
bodies painted with flower designs reminiscent of
the tattoed Visayans of the Pre Spanish Negros |

Festival - 3rd week of the month
Thanksgiving festival for bountiful harvests in commemoration
of the founding anniversary of the Mun. of Maragusan.The
municipality of Maragusan, Compostela Valley celebrates
its foundation day with a trip to the outdoors—quite
literally—as its residents highlight their hometown’s
ecotourism potential..

Kamundagan
Festival - month long activity
Naga City becomes doubly busy this month as it celebrates
Christmas along with its charter anniversary day.
The city's residents have a party with an extended
schedule of cultural shows, trade fairs, and and civic
parades. Not to be missed: the kiti-kiti and pastores
performances both unique practices of Bicolano culture. |

Hugyawan
Dalansayaw Festival - 1st-2nd week of the
month
"Hugyawan" means merrymaking which is the
main concept of the celebration and of the street
dancing performances of different contingents from
all parts of the province. It showcases the culture
of the inhabitants of Negros Oriental and how they
react towards nature, which God has gifted them with.
